IIAS Individual Fellowship

The Israel Institute for Advanced Studies (IIAS) at Hebrew University of Jerusalem is a premier research center that brings together leading scholars and researchers from around the world to collaborate on cutting-edge interdisciplinary research projects.

As such, The Israel Institute for Advanced Studies (IIAS) offers individual fellowships to scholars who wish to carry out independent research in Natural, Social or Formal Sciences. For five or ten months, scholars are offered time, space and a decent stipend to work on their own research project as part of an interdisciplinary community.

IIAS offers individual fellowships to support outstanding scholars and scientists in their research. The fellowship provides scholars with the opportunity to pursue their research in an interdisciplinary and international environment, while also participating in the Institute’s academic and intellectual life. The fellowship is open to scholars and scientists of all nationalities and disciplines, and is awarded for periods ranging from one to nine months. The fellowship provides a generous stipend and covers the fellow’s living expenses and research costs. The IIAS also provides office space and access to its research facilities. The Institute encourages the participation of scholars from underrepresented groups, and also offers family-friendly arrangements.

Each year, IIAS awards up to 20 fellows with an Individual Fellowship. This Fellowship allows scholars to come to Jerusalem and become a member of a diverse, interdisciplinary collaborative learning community where one can challenge boundaries, explore detours and get new perspectives.

The objective of the individual fellowship (IF) program is to support researchers’ careers and foster excellence in research. It targets researchers holding a PhD who wish to carry out their research activities abroad, acquire new skills and develop their careers. IFs help researchers gain experience in other countries and disciplines.

For five or ten months, scholars are offered the time and space to work on a topic of their own choice. Both scholars based in Israel and scholars based abroad can apply for an individual fellowship. Individual fellowships are for scholars who have at least 5 years experience since they obtained their PhD-degree.

Individual Fellowships (IF) are a great option if you are an experienced researcher looking to give your career a boost by working abroad. They offer exciting new learning opportunities and a chance to add some sparkle to your CV. IIAS Individual Fellowships are also open to scholars who do not have a fixed position at a university or research institute. The institute aims for a balanced year group in terms of academic cultures, gender, phase in career, and disciplines.

Fellowships are awarded first and foremost on the basis of the quality of the research proposal; the applicant’s c.v. and publication record are of secondary importance. This way IIAS hopes to stimulate original research and a wide variety of perspectives.

Applicants fill in an online application form providing personal information, information about work & career and practical matters.
