Residency Terms & Conditions

Residency Terms

Residency terms at IIAS vary depending on the program. Fellows are typically invited to spend a period of 5 or 10 months in residence at the Institute. The exact dates are determined in consultation with the fellow and the Institute. Fellows are expected to be in residence for the entire period and to participate actively in the intellectual life of the Institute.

Accommodation and Living Arrangements

IIAS provides visiting fellows with a furnished office and a shared apartment near the Institute’s campus. Apartments are equipped with basic furniture, kitchen appliances, and bedding. Fellows are responsible for their own meals (except lunch, served Sunday to Thursday) and for maintaining their living space.

Financial Support

IIAS provides limited financial support for research expenses, such as purchasing books and materials. Funding is not provided for family members or for travel to and from the Institute.

Fellows from Israeli Research Institutions

Leave of Absence

Fellows must arrange their leave of absence from their home university or research institute and notify the IIAS no later than six months prior to the start of their residency period (POR).

Accommodation

Accommodation will be provided, if available, for Israeli fellows living more than 100 km from the IIAS. Fellows must sign a rental agreement upon arrival, pay a $500 deposit, $700 monthly towards utilities, and a one-time $200 cleaning fee. Extensions for apartment use may incur additional costs.

Attendance and Absences

Fellows must participate fully in the Research Group’s activities and be present at the IIAS five days a week, from Sunday to Thursday.
