Residency Terms at IIAS

Office and Research Facilities
As a visiting fellow at IIAS, Group scholars are provided with furnished offices and extensive access to several Libraries and other research facilities. -
Duration of Residency
Residency terms at IIAS vary depending on the program. In a research group program, visiting fellows are invited to spend a period of 5 or 10 months in residence at the Institute. The fellows are expected to be in residence for the entire period of their fellowship and to participate in the intellectual life of the Institute.
Living Arrangements and Support

Accommodation
IIAS provides visiting fellows with a furnished office and a shared apartment near the Institute's campus. The apartment is equipped with basic furniture, kitchen appliances, and bedding. Fellows are responsible for their own meals (except Lunch, from Sunday to Thursday) and for keeping their living space clean and tidy. -
Research Support
Fellows are provided with access to the Institute's library, as well as other research facilities, such as computer equipment, software, and data archives. IIAS also provides a limited amount of financial support for research expenses, such as purchasing books and other research materials.
Residency Arrangements with the Fellow's Home University

Israeli Fellows
Fellows from Israeli Institutions must organize their own leave of absence according to the residency arrangement models for Israeli Institutions. The Fellow must notify the IIAS no later than six months prior to their period of residency (POR) under which model they will be in residence. -
Accommodation for Israeli Fellows
If available, accommodation will be provided for Israeli fellows who live far away (e.g., Haifa) in the form of an apartment for the duration of their residency. The Fellow is required to sign a rental agreement with the IIAS upon arrival and pay a deposit fee of $500.
Attendance and Absences

Participation Requirements
Fellows must participate fully in the work of the Research Group for the entire residency. This includes spending their working day at the IIAS in order to attend RG meetings and seminars. Fellows are expected to be present five days a week, from Sunday to Thursday. -
Leave Policy
Each Fellow is entitled to leaves of absence for up to two working days for every month of the POR. These days include absences for personal and medical reasons as well as external professional obligations. Unapproved absences will result in deductions from the fellow’s monthly stipend.
Fellows from Abroad

Leave of Absence
Fellows are responsible for organizing leaves of absence from their home university or research institute for their Fellowship at the IIAS. They must notify the IIAS at least six months prior to the commencement of their POR. -
Stipend
Fellows from abroad receive a monthly stipend of $6,000 for every full month of their POR. Young Non-affiliated Fellows receive $3,000 per month. Apartment rent contributions, utilities, and lunch payments will be deducted from the stipend. -
Travel Expenses
Fellows from abroad are entitled to flight reimbursement (roundtrip economy class) from the airport nearest to their home university or research institute to Jerusalem, as per HUJI regulations. -
Health Insurance
Fellows must arrange health insurance covering themselves and their families for the duration of their Fellowship, including COVID-19 coverage.
Visiting Scholars from Abroad

Invitation Letter
The IIAS issues each Visiting Scholar a letter of invitation following a confirmation of their participation. -
Accommodation
Visiting Scholars from abroad receive accommodation for the duration of their visit in IIAS apartments if available. If no IIAS apartments are available, alternative accommodation solutions will be arranged. -
Attendance Requirements
Visiting Scholars must participate fully in the Research Group’s activities, attending meetings and seminars five days a week, from Sunday to Thursday.
