Yohanan is a professor in the Department of Arabic and Literature at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research interests are: classical Islamic law and tradition; Islamic tolerance and its limitations; non-Muslims and non-Muslim religions in Islamic law; Muslim attitudes to religious diversity; Islamic thought in the Indian subcontinent.
